OBFM Cake Baking Contest

Contestant Rules and Guidelines


 

Who Can Enter?

  • Adults of any age are welcome to participate.

  • Both inexperienced and experienced bakers are eligible to enter. 

  • 15 entries will be accepted.

 

What Can I Win?

3 Winners will be chosen:

  • The 1st place winner will be awarded $30 plus 60% of the total cake entry fees.

  • The 2nd place winner will receive $30 plus the remaining 40% of the total entry fees.

  • The 3rd place winner will receive $30 and recognition. 

 

What About the Cake?

  • This competition is intended for homemade from scratch cakes, made in a home kitchen. No cake mixes or prepared frostings are allowed. Toppings and decorations are encouraged. 

  • Cakes may be single or multi-layer, and all parts must be edible.

  • Do not submit anything that requires refrigeration as the event is held outside.

  • All entries are to be submitted as a whole, complete cake.

  • All entries should be presented in a sealed container, or properly covered when submitted. 

 

How Do I Enter?

  • To enter, please complete the online entry form here

  • There is a $10 per cake entry fee, payable online when you complete your entry form. Your application is not complete until you have paid the entry fee.

 

What Happens the Day of the Contest?

  • Check-in for your cake is at 9:30 at the Baking Contest tent. (next to the welcome tent) 

  • Judging will start at 10:00am.

  • Please bring a copy of your ingredients listed on an index card to be displayed along with your cake. 

  • After judging, slices of your cake, less one for yourself, will be sold to the general public.  Any proceeds from the cake sale will go towards our Libby’s Legacy program.

  • Please return to pick up your container no later than 1:00 when the market ends.  All containers used to submit the entry are the responsibility of the entrant. 

 

How Will Recipes Be Judged?

 Entries will be judged by a panel of baking experts on the following criteria:

  • Appearance (maximum 10 points)

  • Taste (maximum 10 points)

  • Creativity (maximum 10 points)

 

What Happens if I Win?

  • Participants should be present at the Baking Tent at 11:00 for the announcement of the winners.  If you are a winner and are not present, you will be notified by phone to return to the market.  

  • Winners will be photographed and will receive their prizes at this time.  Photos will be used to promote this special event at the OBFM.

  • Cake slices will be sold after the winners are announced. 

  • All cake containers must be picked up by their owners by 1:00, the end of the market.
