How One Painting Became Part of a Cross-Country Story

This was my very first time vending at OBFM, which felt especially exciting after years of visiting the market myself. At markets, I’m always curious about what brought someone there that day, and what moments lead them to pause with a particular piece of artwork.
A visitor stopped by while traveling cross-country with her dog, and she shared that she has been choosing a piece of art from each state she visits. It also happened to be her birthday, and her friend, who was on a separate road trip, was able to meet up with her here in Beaufort.
She chose a framed print of my jellyfish painting, Birth of Pleiades, to represent North Carolina. In the moment, it felt exciting and meaningful that all of those little pieces had come together: my first day vending at OBFM, her travels, her birthday, her friend meeting her here, and this artwork becoming part of her collection.
The piece is about rebirth, wonder, and the way countless little pieces come together to shape a life. That’s part of why the moment felt so special to me. My artwork wasn’t just going home with someone; it felt like it was joining a larger adventure. It was becoming one small part of a travel collection connected to people, places, and stories across the United States.
I felt excited, honored, and grateful that one of my pieces could become part of that story.
